If you’re working with ultra-long glass tubes, you already know the struggle. Keeping the heat consistent across the whole length of the kiln is a nightmare. When your tunnel hits that 2-meter mark, standard lamps just don’t do the job. You end up with cold spots, which leads to stressed glass or seals that just won’t hold. That’s why we build custom, continuous infrared units. No gaps. No guessing. Just steady heat. The tricky part: Length and Power Once you go over 2 meters, things get weird. You have to deal with voltage drops and the way materials expand when they get hot. We don’t just “stretch” a filament and hope for the best. We get into the weeds with the math, calculating the wattage per centimeter so the heat density stays flat from start to finish. Here is how we handle it: we usually wire a series of high-wattage quartz elements in parallel. Why? Because if one segment decides to quit, the rest of the line keeps humming along. Just a heads-up—make sure your power supply can handle the total amperage. You don’t want to be tripping breakers in the middle of a run. Talking Materials We stick with high-purity quartz glass because it can actually handle the brutal temperatures needed for glass sealing. Depending on what you’re heating, we can tweak the coatings to change how the heat hits the glass. Shortwave IR digs deep into the material, while medium-wave is your best bet for surface sealing. We also use heavy-duty connectors. These joints take a real beating every time the system heats up and cools down, so we make sure they won’t oxidize and fail on you. The Trade-offs Going with a continuous layout is great for your floor space. It keeps the heating zone compact and lets the tube soak in a steady temperature as it moves through. But there’s a catch. Long quartz tubes are fragile. A 2-meter lamp can snap if it vibrates too much. To stop that from happening, we recommend mounting them in rigid, dampened frames. It keeps the glass safe when the machines kick on. And one last thing—don’t forget your cooling system. A heat source this concentrated puts out a massive amount of ambient heat, and you’ll need the airflow to manage it.
