The battle against moisture Here is the deal: these lamps use a tungsten filament inside a quartz envelope. If even a tiny bit of moisture sneaks past the seal, that filament oxidizes almost instantly. You’ll hear a little “pop,” and that’s it. Dead lamp. To stop that, we shove the units into chambers that mimic years of bathroom steam. We’re hunting for microscopic leaks in the glass-to-metal seals. If a seal is off by even a fraction of a millimeter, the lamp fails. Simple as that. Rust is the enemy Then there are the connectors. In a damp environment, standard metal parts love to rust. When they corrode, the electrical resistance goes up. That creates heat right at the terminal, which can melt the housing or trip your breaker. Not exactly the “relaxing” bathroom experience people are looking for. We use specific alloys to fight this, and our aging tests force that corrosion to happen fast. We check to make sure the connection stays tight and the power stays steady. The balancing act Now, you might think, “Just make the seals thicker!” But there’s a catch. If we make the seal too thick, the lamp becomes brittle. If you tighten the mounting brackets just a little too much during installation, the quartz could crack.
