
Stopping the Energy Leak in Your Glass Annealing
Let’s be honest: annealing is usually the part of the production line that just eats money. Most setups waste a ton of power just heating up the air around the glass, which is basically like trying to warm up a house by leaving the front door open. We do things differently. We use shortwave infrared (IR) lamps that hit the glass directly. No wasting time, no heating the whole room. You just get the glass up to temp faster and see your electricity bill actually drop. Why shortwave IR actually works Think of it this way: longwave radiation is slow. Shortwave IR, on the other hand, punches right through the surface of the glass. We pack a lot of power into a small space. This means you can hit those exact temperature marks needed to get rid of internal stress without turning your entire oven into a sauna. It’s a much faster climb to that annealing point. Getting it into your line We use high-purity quartz tubes because they can handle the “on-off-on” thermal shock without cracking. And don’t worry about your current setup. Whether your line is short or long, we tweak the wattage and voltage to fit your grid. Most of the time, these just slide right into the spot where your old resistive heaters used to be. The biggest thing you’ll notice? The response time. These lamps snap on and off instantly. It lets your PID controllers be way more precise, which means fewer shattered sheets and no weird optical distortions. The honest trade-offs It’s not all magic; there are a few things you have to watch. Because these lamps are so powerful, they put a lot of pressure on the reflectors. If dust builds up on the gold or aluminum, your heat transfer tanks. You’ve got to keep them clean. Also, you have to get your conveyor timing exactly right. Since the heat is so concentrated, if a piece of glass lingers too long under a high-wattage lamp, you’re going to overheat the surface. At the end of the day, it’s about one thing: using fewer kWh for every square meter of glass you push through the line.
